ForumCon Sneak Peak: Affiliate Marketing for Forums

The second half of ForumCon Chicago (September 27 at the Merchandise Mart) will be dedicated to panel discussions centered around some of the areas forum owners are finding to be the most critical right now.  One panel in particular we are looking forward to will be centered around all things affiliate marketing.

There are quite a few different ways to earn revenue from your forum or social community (AdSense, delivering ads, & paid subscriptions just to name a few).  But for top forum owners, affiliate marketing is often a critical component of their monetization strategy.  However, it can be difficult to get started or understand how to optimize your revenue once you launch.  As a result, you may be putting off implementing an affiliate marketing strategy or, if you do have one, not spending time optimizing your strategy.

In this panel, we’ll focus on helping newbies understand the first steps to implementing an affiliate marketing campaign within their forum and helping experts understand ways to optimize revenue.  And of course, we’ll have plenty of time to answer your questions as well.

We’ve got a great set of experts leading the conversation, including:

Carolyn Kmet

Director of Affiliate Marketing, Groupon

Carolyn Tang Kmet is the Director of Affiliate Marketing for Groupon, a Web site that features a daily deal on the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in more than 500 markets worldwide.

Kevin Joyce

A marketing geek with a passion for building businesses, understanding technology and human behavior, Bombacino lives, breathes and loves the marketing world like few others.

He was most recently the President & CMO/COO of Geomentum, the award-winning hyperlocal marketing agency that is part of Interpublic Group. Prior to that, Bombacino spent 4.5 years as the EVP of Marketing and then Chief Marketing Officer for Restaurant.com where he helped increase profits over 600%. We’ll be covering a wide range of topics, but a few questions in particular we’ll be addressing…

  1. How do I choose which affiliate offers will work best with my forum?
  2. How much money can you really make?
  3. What are some of the challenges in utilizing affiliate marketing versus AdSense or banners?
  4. I applied to join an advertiser’s affiliate program and got rejected. How do I ensure that I get approved?

Got a question you’d like to see covered? Let us know here.  If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, you can register here.  (Use promo code SEP20 and order before September 20th for a $75 discount — just a few tickets left so be sure to grab one soon!)
